Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)
Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) sets a maximum number of strokes a player can post on any hole depending on the player’s handicap. The purpose of ESC is so one bad hole doesn’t effect a players handicap too bad. The table below shows the maximum number of strokes a player can post depending on one’s handicap. After the round is completed you are to adjust your score using ESC before posting the score. All scores including tournament rounds are adjusted for ESC. In our Men’s Club events that the Committee posts on your behalf the ESC is taken care of by our tournament software.
Example: Player A has a handicap index of 25.3. Player A scores a 9 and 10 on two holes. Using the ESC table those scores would be changed to both 8’s on those holes. So when a Player posts the final score it would be 3 strokes less using ESC.
